Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice on matters relating to property rights, real estate transactions, contracts, and financing.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts, including lease agreements, purchase agreements, and financing documents.
  • Represent clients in real estate litigation, handling cases related to property disputes, contract breaches, and land rights.
  • Prepare legal strategies for court cases, conduct legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, and briefs for real estate litigation.
  • Manage alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes such as mediation or arbitration when applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national real estate laws, regulations, and zoning ordinances.
  • Advise clients on regulatory requirements, including environmental laws, land use, and development restrictions.
  • Negotiate and draft complex contracts for real estate transactions, ensuring all terms align with legal standards and protect clients’ interests.
  • Conduct due diligence on property transactions, identifying potential legal risks and advising clients accordingly.
  • Represent clients in negotiations with buyers, sellers, financial institutions, and other parties involved in real estate deals.
  • Provide ongoing advisory services to corporate and individual clients on real estate investments, acquisitions, and development projects.
  • Oversee the legal aspects of property transactions, including the transfer of titles, escrow processes, and registration with relevant authorities.
  • Manage large real estate portfolios and provide legal guidance on acquisitions, sales, and property management issues.
  • Lead and mentor junior legal staff, guiding on complex legal matters and ensuring professional growth within the team.
  • Supervise paralegals and junior lawyers during the preparation and execution of legal documents and court appearances.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest changes and trends in real estate law, property rights, and regulations in Nigeria.
  • Conduct legal research to identify emerging risks or opportunities for clients in real estate law and adapt legal strategies accordingly.
  • Identify potential legal risks in real estate transactions and provide strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Advise clients on the legal implications of business decisions related to property acquisitions, financing, and development.
  • Work closely with other professionals such as real estate agents, property developers, financial institutions, and government officials to facilitate seamless property transactions.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A degree in law from an accredited law school – Admission to the bar
  • Over 10 years of experience in Real Estate Law                                                             
  • Strong Litigation experience
  • Strong knowledge of real estate law, including property rights, contracts, financing, and handling various litigation
