We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Accountant
Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Description
- The accountant will support the financial operations of our chain of stores by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of financial records.
- This role involves performing a variety of accounting tasks, including data entry, account reconciliation, and supporting the preparation of financial reports.
- The accountant will collaborate closely with the Finance consultant to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
- Reconciling bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records as directed by the MD
- Assist with inventory accounting, including tracking and reconciling inventory levels, and cost of goods sold.
- Support periodic inventory audits in collaboration with store managers.
- Process invoices, payments, and collections accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate with suppliers and customers to resolve payment issues or discrepancies.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Assist in analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Keeping informed about current legislation relating to finance and accounting.
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
- Assist with other accounting projects
- Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting or related discipline from any recognized institution
- 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
- Qualifications (ACCA or ICAN) certified is a plus but not required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
Skills / Abilities:
- Self-Starter
- Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
- Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
- Proficiency with computers and bookkeeping software, strong typing skills.
- Exceptional time management and verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with basic accounting principles.
- Professional manner and a strong ethical code.
- Ability to multitask and remain motivated and positive.
