We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountant

Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • The accountant will support the financial operations of our chain of stores by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of financial records.
  • This role involves performing a variety of accounting tasks, including data entry, account reconciliation, and supporting the preparation of financial reports.
  • The accountant will collaborate closely with the Finance consultant to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciling bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records as directed by the MD
  • Assist with inventory accounting, including tracking and reconciling inventory levels, and cost of goods sold.
  • Support periodic inventory audits in collaboration with store managers.
  • Process invoices, payments, and collections accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with suppliers and customers to resolve payment issues or discrepancies.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Assist in analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Keeping informed about current legislation relating to finance and accounting.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
  • Assist with other accounting projects
  • Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting or related discipline from any recognized institution
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Qualifications (ACCA or ICAN) certified is a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.

Skills / Abilities:

  • Self-Starter
  • Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
  • Proficiency with computers and bookkeeping software, strong typing skills.
  • Exceptional time management and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles.
  • Professional manner and a strong ethical code.
  • Ability to multitask and remain motivated and positive.
